Hunterdon VINELink Release Coverage
New Jersey VINE through VINELink is a custody-information and notification service. Official New Jersey material describes participation by county correctional agencies and the state corrections notification framework. The service may offer notice of release, transfer, escape, or another custody change. Those events have different meanings. A transfer alert indicates that the reporting agency’s custody changed. It does not mean the person returned to the community.
Hunterdon County adds a jurisdiction issue. Since the county contracted with Warren County to house all Hunterdon inmates, a person processed in Hunterdon may be reported through Warren’s physical jail or another agency label shown by the live service. Do not assume the correct choice from the county of arrest alone. Read the agency and facility labels displayed in VINELink, then match them to the known case and custody path.
NJDOC also participates in the state notification framework. A state-prison record is not a Hunterdon county jail record, even if the case began in Hunterdon or the person was held at Edna Mahan. VINE does not replace the state offender record, the county custody-event record, or the court order that explains an event.
Search One Hunterdon VINELink Record
Search for one person at a time and match more than a name. Common names, aliases, and changes in physical custody can create several possible results. The goal is to open the individual record tied to the right agency and case. A no-result screen is not proof that the person was never held or has been released. New Jersey does not promise an indefinite archive of released VINELink results.
- Open VINELink and select New Jersey. Use the live jurisdiction or agency options rather than assuming Hunterdon is the display label.
- Enter the person’s name or identification number. Use the most exact data available from a booking, court, or corrections record.
- Compare returned identifiers, agency, age or other displayed data, and the known case context. Do not select a record solely because the name matches.
- Open the matched individual result. Read the status, location, and event wording exactly as displayed.
- Record the date and time checked. If formal proof matters, obtain the underlying custody-event or court record from the responsible agency.

The jurisdiction choice is especially important for Hunterdon detainees because Warren may be the physical custodian that reports the event.

Hunterdon VINELink Release Fields
VINELink screens vary by agency and record. Read only the fields the matched result actually presents. Do not fill gaps with data from a different system. A state profile may have sentence fields that a county jail result lacks, and a notification event may be more recent than the public custody screen.

A released label is strongest when it is tied to a named agency and confirmed by that agency’s own record. For a Hunterdon detainee, ask Warren whether physical custody ended and whether a destination was recorded. For a state prisoner, NJDOC’s Date Out-of-Custody closes the displayed prison interval. The two findings are not interchangeable.

Register Hunterdon Release Notifications
Registration is most useful while the person is still in custody. Start from the correctly matched individual result. New Jersey materials describe telephone, text, app, email, and TTY methods, but the live record controls which options are offered. Separate registration may be needed for each type of notice. Never enter contact information into an unrelated name match.
- Open the matched result and choose the notification or registration option displayed for that person.
- Select an offered channel, such as telephone, email, text, or app. Use a destination controlled by the intended recipient.
- Enter the required contact data and complete the verification shown on screen. Review which event types are included.
- For the established New Jersey phone workflow, create a private four-digit PIN. Enter it when the automated call arrives to acknowledge receipt and stop repeat calls.
- Save the confirmation without exposing the phone number, address, email, or PIN. Update or cancel through the live service when needed.
The New Jersey VINE telephone channel is 1-877-846-3465, also written as 1-877-VINE-4-NJ. The official brochure lists TTY at 1-866-847-1298. The service is free and confidential. A personal phone is safer than a shared switchboard because the recipient must hear and acknowledge the automated message.
Reconcile Hunterdon Release Alerts
A VINE alert is a time-stamped lead. It should be reconciled with the agency that reported it whenever the exact event matters. If the alert says transfer, identify the destination before describing the person as released. If it says release, ask whether another detainer, court matter, or receiving agency followed the reported event.
Hunterdon’s two-county system makes that check essential. Call Warren County Correctional Center at 908-475-7900 and Hunterdon Booking at 908-788-1184. Ask whether the person remains in physical custody, the time and type of the last event, and whether a receiving agency appears. A person missing from Hunterdon’s dated population report could be at Warren, in alternate incarceration, transferred to NJDOC, held by another agency, or discharged.
Court records explain legal authority, while corrections records confirm physical movement. A dismissal or release order may authorize exit, but a detainer can prevent community discharge. If the VINE event and court date differ, preserve both and request the custody-event entry. Do not silently treat the legal order as the completed jail release time.
Hunterdon State Release Verification
For a state prison interval, use the NJDOC offender search after accepting its disclaimer. Match the SBI number, aliases, descriptors, county of commitment, and incarceration history. Date Out-of-Custody is the official released-first field. Current Max Release Date is a calculation, while Current Parole Eligibility Date concerns possible parole timing. Neither projected field proves a completed release.
NJDOC says public data updates biweekly and released records stop being maintained after departure. Most profiles are removed after the custodial term has been complete for the stated post-term period. A missing result may reflect retention, exclusion, spelling, or search scope. It is not a substitute for a records request.
A VINE release alert and NJDOC Date Out-of-Custody may corroborate the end of state custody. Current parole requires a separate SPB check. An old “paroled” label does not stay current after the person leaves NJDOC.
Note: Match the incarceration interval before comparing dates when a person has more than one state prison commitment.
Hunterdon VINELink Release Limits
VINELink is not a federal inmate locator and should not be forced into that role. For a federal sentenced person, use the Bureau of Prisons inmate locator. A past release date with no facility, or a status of Released or Not in BOP Custody, ends only the BOP interval. Another agency or supervised release may still apply. A federal pretrial person in a local contract bed may be under U.S. Marshals authority and not yet appear as a sentenced BOP inmate.
Immigration custody is also separate. A Warren release to ICE is an interagency transfer, not return to the community. ICE’s locator has its own short released-person window and exact-match rules. County VINE, NJDOC, BOP, and ICE each report only their custody systems.
Notification coverage also has privacy and scope limits. Official material says New Jersey VINE includes county jails, state correctional facilities, and most juvenile facilities, but that statement does not promise a public juvenile result. Do not search for or publish protected juvenile details. For any record, a notification subscriber’s contact data must remain private. The alert is meant to reach the registered recipient, not to create a public list. If the selected person or agency is wrong, return to the result screen and match identifiers again before saving or acting on the event.
No VINELink result can promise a permanent history. Search failures can arise from the jurisdiction choice, spelling, release retention, agency participation, or lawful restrictions. Use a narrow OPRA request for the county event, NJDOC’s written records route for state custody, and the correct court for the legal disposition. State the result as “not confirmed in the searched system” when no public record resolves the question.
