Choose the Record Custodian
Use the office that created or controls the record. Hunterdon County processes local detainees and publishes the dated current-population report, while Warren County physically houses all Hunterdon inmates under the county arrangement. The New Jersey Department of Corrections handles state-prison records. Court orders and supervision records follow separate routes. Calling the wrong office can produce a valid “no record” response even when another custodian holds the event.
- Hunterdon Sheriff and booking: 71 Main Street, Building 1, first floor, P.O. Box 2900, Flemington, NJ 08822. Call 908-788-1166 for the Sheriff, 908-788-1213 for Corrections, or 908-788-1184 for Booking. Published office hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Warren physical custody: Warren County Correctional Center, 175 County Route 519 South, Belvidere, NJ 07823-1950, 908-475-7900. Ask whether the person is still in physical custody and whether the last event was release or transfer.
- Hunterdon county records: County Counsel/OPRA, 71 Main Street, Building 1, third floor, P.O. Box 2900, Flemington, NJ 08822, 908-788-1546, opra@co.hunterdon.nj.us. File electronically through the Hunterdon records portal.
- New Jersey state-prison records: Use the official NJDOC offender search. Its disclaimer directs offender-information questions to a written inquiry rather than a telephone request.
- Hunterdon criminal court records: Hunterdon County Justice Center, 65 Park Avenue, Flemington, NJ 08822. The Criminal Records Room is 908-824-9750 ext. 13110, and published vicinage hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. County OPRA does not handle Superior Court criminal or expungement records.
- Parole and probation: Specific parole questions go to the New Jersey State Parole Board at 609-292-4257 or SPB-Public-Info-Office@spb.nj.gov. Hunterdon probation is at the Justice Center; the published division manager contact is 908-332-7700 ext. 13860.
- Federal or immigration custody: Use the official BOP Inmate Locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator. Those systems do not replace Hunterdon, Warren, NJDOC, or court records.
For a county release inquiry, give the person’s full name, aliases, birth date, HC or booking number, and the date range. Ask for the last custody event and any receiving agency. “Not here” does not always mean community release. A transfer to NJDOC, another jail, federal authorities, or immigration custody ends one agency’s interval while another may begin.
